Personal Profile
My life’s work has always been focused on the exploration, study, and conservation of nature – especially forests. At 17, I joined the Ontario Junior Forest Rangers, and have spent the last 30 years working with trees, forests and the biodiversity they support. My research interests are a mix of forestry, wildlife biology, evolutionary ecology, and behavioural ecology. I have a Diploma from Fleming College (Ecosystem Management), a BSc from Trent (Ecology), and an MSc from SFU. (Ecology). I work extensively with native trees, including long-running projects on their biodiversity, their seed production, and their propagation. My practical and applied work focuses on forest inventory, restoration, management, and conservation. I’m a Managed Forest Plan Approver for the OMNR and have worked on a diversity of projects in urban, rural, and wilderness areas. In my spare time, I volunteer for community groups, doing talks, walks, and workshops on biology, ecology, and conservation of Ontario’s trees and forests.
